So yesterday was my, *ahem*, 31st birthday. I am not ashamed or freaked out that I am in my 30's. I can remember growing up knowing women who would melt down simply because they turned 30. I never thought that 30 was old nor do I now. I really do believe that age is a state of mind. I feel grown up now. It's odd, because even though I do not see myself as old, when I see "kids" in their early 20's I think of how young they are. I think of how young I was at that age. I married very young. I was a month shy of my 20th birthday when I married my husband. I was not even legally old enough to drink the campaign in our limo on the day of our wedding! I was barely old enough to vote. I was young. But when I think of how I feel inside, I still feel like I am that young. I know that I have matured in my thoughts, but I still feel like I did those first few years of our marriage. I only feel "old" when I think of things like my nephew who is a mere 4 1/2 years younger than me marring and expecting his first child. That makes me a great aunt! That does not even seem possible.
OK, now that I got off on that rabbit trail...! I had the most wonderful day yesterday. I was fortunate that it happen to be my husbands scheduled day off. After getting to sleep in (past 9:00 in case you were wondering) we got ourselves up and out the door for a few errands. My kids were on their best behavior. They were way too cute and made me smile the entire afternoon. We enjoyed a quick lunch together as a family and made one last stop for some groceries. Even though most of our afternoon was simple mundane errands, I enjoyed the time with my family. I enjoyed just being out with them and enjoyed simple pleasures such a laugh at how silly we are! After all of our errands and lunch we came home for a short break and rest before heading back out again. We had to have the kids at Auntie's/Teri's by 6:00 so that we could enjoy an evening of dinner and coffee by ourselves. When dropping the kids off, Auntie lead me to the kitchen where she revealed a cute little birthday cake! She told me that Kimmy and Kevin were going to be coming over as well. So after our amazing dinner of Monterey Chicken from Chili's we headed back to Auntie's for coffee, cake, and ice cream. It was the perfect ending to a simply perfect day! Here are just a few snapshot of the wonderful gifts I received.
Auntie got me this lovely basket filled with baking sheets, baking pans, cake/cookie mixes, and this great towel and apron set. I have been wanting an apron for years and never gotten one. You know, it's one of those things you want and forget about. I absolutely love it and can't wait to cook in my new kitchen with it.
And I received this great gift from my friend Tammy. I can't wait to put these adorable little dishes in my kitchen with a couple of votives in them! And what girl does not love Bath & Body Works products?!Now I am planning for Camden's birthday which is tomorrow. We had orginally planned to meet up with some of his friends for lunch but now it seems he has come down with yet another cold. He has been pretty clingy and says his throat feels scratchy. I guess it's a good idea that I scheduled his 5 year check up with the Dr. on his actual birthday. We have to be there at 10:30 tomorrow and I'm glad. My poor sweet boy. Since he is not feeling well we are going to do something with his friends next week sometime and we plan on having the family over once we move.
For his birthday this year we let him pick out what he wanted and he this is what he picked...
This picture cracks me up for so many different reasons! But mainly because his facial expression is unlike one I've ever seen! He loves to pretend that he is a policeman. He plays police with Daddy all the time and pretends to arrest him. It began a couple of Christmases ago when he received a police play set with a badge and holster. It also came with plastic hand-cuffs. Because it was all plastic it did not last long. So he picked out the adorable policeman's hat, the play metal hand-cuffs, and Mommy suggested the walkie-talkie's. He was playing with it all day, that is until he began to feel yucky. He is growing up so very fast. I see less and less of my little boy and more and more of a little man. Happy Birthday my sweet little Bug-a-boo!Well, I need to go finish up our late dinner. I hope I didn't disappoint too much on this anticipated post! Have a great Friday everyone. Until next time...TTFN.
