Heirlooms

As our time staying with my brother and his family comes to a close, we wanted to spend a little time together. We really had no ideal what we would do, but we wanted to do something.

So there other night we got out a video my sister made back in the early 90's of our family. She got old family films, slides, and photos and put them all together on one video for my parents. As we got to talking about our upbringing, Ed mentions a few different items he has that belonged to our grandfather. I could not believe that all these years that he has had these items in his possession he has never showed me! My brother, my dad, and myself all share a love for the nostalgic. So he brings down these items from his attic and shows them to me. I was blown away! I admit, I was also a little jealous of all the wonderful little treasures he now owns. Here are a few of the miscellaneous items...

*This is a postcard sent to my Grandma H's (my mom's mother) from my Grandpa. If you can read the bottom he speaks of my mom and Uncle Ed. He never mentions my Aunt Patty who is the youngest. This must have been sometime before her birth. I believe the date on the back is 1944 which would have made my now 68 year old mom a mere 3 years old!

*These are my Grandma A's (my Dad's mother) glasses. I remember her wearing these. It brings back so many memories. I wish I would have been old enough to have had the chance to ask her what it was like growing up. She was born in 1899!

*These are some sketches that my Dad did. There is no date on them, but my guess it was when he was in his late teens to early twenties. Dad turns 70 next June in case you were wondering!

*This is my Grandma A's membership card for the local chapter of the Women's Moose Club. You can see where she paid her membership dues on Feb. 16, 1944.

*This next photo is of one of my favorite items that Ed has. Ironically both of my grandfathers where architects and designed and built homes in this area. Both actually have street named for them as well. Well, this is my Grandpa A's tape measure that used while working on different homes. It is leather and is great shape for it's age. I have no idea how old it is. Grandpa was born in 1885 and passed away long before I was born.

*This is a photograph of my Dad and his troop during boot camp. My Dad is the young man sitting on the ground, second one in on the left. He was (and still is) a handsome fella!

I think I am going to stop myself there for now. I have so many more but I, 1)do not want to bore you with all of my families memories and 2)I want to save one of my other favorites for a post of it's own. It goes with a story about my Grandpa A. getting hit by a trolley. ;)

Well, I must go. We have church in the morning and a family dinner/get together here at my brother's tomorrow. And prayerfully...we will have some news on when we will officially get our keys. I'll be sure to keep you posted!! Until tomorrow...TTFN.
